How can you tell fake “UGGs” from Genuine UGG Australia Boots? Or when is an UGG not an UGG? To add to the confusion “UGG” is a word in general use for a certain style of Australian Sheepskin boot. So merchants selling UGG Boots aren’t necessarily selling legitimate UGG Australia Boots (a Deckers Corporation brand). An annoying number of “UGG” retailers bring out models that look like UGG Australia boots, have similar names and pretty much copy the label and sometimes even the boxes! My feeling is that though it might not be illegal, it is certainly very misleading, and if the purpose is to dupe customers into thinking they’re buying the genuine article when they’re not, then its wrong. Lots of customer have been duped by bargain UGGs and lots are really confused by what’s out there.

Through there are a number of different brands offering similar styles of boots and not calling them UGG boots (EMU Australia for instance), UGG Australia is the brand that people trust and make the quality Skeepskin and Wool Lined Boots that most people want to acquire this Christmas. If you want some too there are four questions to ask when you find a product online or on the high street.

Question 1) MODEL - Is this a genuine UGG Australia Model Name – you can use my UGG pages as a reference or refer to official UGG Australia’s website www.uggaustralia.com to check out the latest model. Some of the genuine UGG models like UGG Cove and UGG Kona are legally for sale in this country but are part of the US range of UGGs.

Question 2) LABEL - Can you clearly see the label in full on the pictures. Many Aussie sites have their sponsored ads all over Google UK this season with a similar looking label, describing the boots as “Australian UGG Boots”, “Australian Made UGG Boots” and “Australian Made Sheepskin Boots” (I think this one from UGG Stop is the fairest) – (www.australianuggboots.com.au and www.uggbootshop.com.au and www.uggstopuggbootsaustralia.com.au respectively) – these are not UGG Australia brand boots and the label is often deliberately hidden to confuse. They may be perfectly comfy and hardwearing boots but if you think you are buying UGG Australia products then you’ll be very disappointed.

Question 3) TRUST - Do you trust the merchant? A recent arrival has been www.allofshoes.co.uk (damn cheeky name for a start don’t you think!) – Look at the Contact US page and note the address -Allofshoes, Inc. Meifeng Footwear Factory P.T City FuJian PR. CHINA. Another is www.inthego.co.uk - again check the contact us page and Inthego, Inc. 6# Floor Meifeng Pack Factory 495# Fengmei St. P.t City Fujian PR 351100 China - Be warned just because its a co.uk domain it does not mean the company is British! Do you trust these merchants as an official supplier of genuine UGG Australia footwear? Put it this way - if I had a pound for every time I’ve been e-mailed on this Blog from bulk chinese suppliers of both Crocs and UGG Boots, Nike, Adidas and the rest I’d be able to buy some genuine ones! There’s only one winner here and definately its not the customer.

Question 4) CHEAP – Finally remember the old adage – does it sound too good to be true?

Of course if you are after some cheap ugg boots and aren’t particularly bothered about taking a risk with quality and delivery then good luck to you! You may need it.
