Crocs is the new Marmite

You’ve got to admire the passion of the i hate crocs folks with their blogs, countless facebook groups, youtube posts and “crocs and scissors“ tee-shirts. Bandwagon rebels with a cause, these self proclaimed fashionistas with their truly inspired mall jeans/ tee-shirt/ skechers / converse combos can rant all they want. Create anything different, not to mention highly successful, and you’ll always get a few Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells archetypes, with time on their hands, writing in.

Meanwhile us crocs fans young and old are quietly benefiting from comfortable shoes and the many other crocs styles that are not the clog style for which 99% of their venom is aimed. I hate clogs would certainly be a more interesting proposition but to write off a company and its Croslite material is pretty wide of the mark.

Things are moving forward, Crocs make other shoes than Clogs you know, the Crox stock is booming and the Crocs shelves of Europe and rarely filled for long. With the advent of the You by Crocs women boot and shoe range (definitely no Clogs there) and the prospect of Croslite RT clothes on the horizon, the broadside “i hate crocs” blogs will slowly die away and Crocs Inc like many other successful mainstream American brands will become part of the fashion fabric.

Yes Crocs is the new Marmite. The shoes rarely illicit a neutral reaction; its either love of hate. As for me I’m a lover not a fighter and I do like Marmite too!

I Love Crocs

PS. When I launch the “I heart Crocs” tee-shirts you’ll be the first to know!

Let’s have the debate here – Love em or Hate em, why do you feel so passionate about Crocs?

Crocs (Nasdaq:CROX) has announced this week that it will produce an all new clothes line for men and kids made with a syntehtic material called Croslite RT. Croslite TR is an all new material derived from the unique Croslite material which are used in its the popular fashion shoe line. The “RT” in the name stands for “relaxed technology.”

The material “enables garments to be resistant to harsh chemicals and heat, ensuring longevity after exposure to sun, UV light and sweat,” Crocs said Monday.

The new clothing line will include short and long-sleeved T-shirts for adults made of a blend of cotton and Croslite RT, and woven shirts made entirely of the new Crocs rt material. The company also will offer children’s shorts, trousers and skirts that can be accessorised with the same Jibbitz charms that are used on Crocs footwear. The clothes will come in colours complementing those used in Crocs footwear. The clothing will be resistant to harsh chemicals and heat, the company said, adding that it plans to launch another line of clothing for spring 2008 using Croslite rt technology.
